“No one could convince me to return to ploughing”.
Back in 2020, Deividas, together with InSoil, began transitioning his 115-hectare farm to regenerative farming by implementing crop rotation practices, cover crops, residue management, and low soil disturbance tilling.
“No one could convince me to return to ploughing. Direct seeding cut fuel use and brought new life to our soil — it’s healthier and more resilient.”
I’ve been farming since 2011, growing wheat, rapeseed, barley, and peas. Over time, I moved away from ploughing to direct drilling, which has improved my soil health, saved time and fuel, and maintained yields — unless weather interferes.
When I needed financing, I turned to InSoil. They supported me with equipment loans, working capital, and later, the Carbon Farming Programme. I didn’t need to change much — I was already using sustainable farming practices — but the program helped me benefit from my efforts.
It takes patience and knowledge, especially with cover crops, but the results speak for themselves. I fully recommend the Carbon Farming Programme. Nature is changing and we have to adapt by farming smarter and protecting our soil.
